What is the standard form of a linear equation?
Standard form is yet another way of writing a linear equation that is very useful when graphing a line. The equation is set up in such a way that the axis intercepts along with the slope can be found easily.
Given a linear equation, rewrite the equation in standard form.
Given two points Write an equation in standard form.
Graph equations in standard form.

Standard FormAx + By = C Mr. Clarke's Rules for placing an equation in standard form:
"Ax" must be first
"By" must be second
"A" must be positive
No Fractions in the equation
No Decimals in the equation
To graph the standard form equation you only need two of the following three components, but you should practice finding all three so you have the option of using the easier of the three to graph. The three components are the two axis intercepts, the x intercept and the y intercept, and the slope. To find them use the following fractions.
First write down A, B, and C. These numbers come from the standard form equation.
1) x intercept.........C/A
2) y intercept.........C/B
3) slope or m........ -A/B
For example if you have the equation
4x + 5y = 20
A = 4
B = 5
C = 20
The x intercept is 20/4 = 5
The y intercept is 20/5 = 4
The slope is -4/5
